The history of the monastery of St. Demiana in Barari Belqas, Dakahlia Governorate, dates back to the fourth century A.D. The Church of Saint Demiana was rebuilt and inaugurated on the twelfth of Bashans (20th. May) in 744 A.D. Her body was buried with the forty virgins. The monastery currently includes seven churches. Saint Demiana was martyred at the hands of Diocletian's soldiers on the thirteenth of the month of Tuba (21st. January), so the main celebration of the saint's Mulid is during the period from May 10-20 (2-12 Bashans)
The research studies the popular beliefs and presents a detailed vision of religious and popular practices during the Mulid period, which confirms the unity of the Egyptian folk belief. The research aims to employ the Mulid and the popular rituals and beliefs as an intangible cultural tourist heritage. And design a tourist route linking the archaeological, and cultural monuments in Mansoura - the capital of the governorate - and the monastery of Saint Demiana. Which effectively contributes to supporting and revitalizing archaeological religious tourism in Dakahlia Governorate
